Styles of Preformed Pouches
Box Pouch:
The Box Pouch has been very popular style recently. As per the name, it offers an alternative to a folded carton box. Vertical edges of the pouch are sealed to give structure to the pouch. With a flat bottom, it stands up straight on the shelf allowing for brand messaging on all 4 vertical panels of the pouch as well as the bottom of the pouch.
Doy Stand up Pouch:
Doy Style Stand Up Pouches are also commonly referred to as “Stand Up Pouches”. This style of pouch has been a very popular style of flexible packaging since the mid 90’s. It comes with a round bottom gusset or a K Style Bottom gusset. This bag has 2 Vertical sealed edges. It stands up on the shelf very nicely, allowing for brand messaging on the front and back of the pouch.
Block Bottom Bag:
The Block Bottom Bag has been a very popular style of packaging for high density products. The pouch is formed in a rectangle shape. The bottom of the pouch is gusseted from sides and sealed. Vertical sides of the bag are creased to allow the pouch stand up straight on shelves. Back panel of the bag has a Fin Seal down the middle. Brand messaging is effective on the front and side panels.
Flat Bottom 4 Corner Bag:
Flat Bottom 4 Corner Bag is very similar to a Box Pouch once it’s sealed. The vertical edges of the pouch are sealed to give it a box type shape. A flat bottom is sealed to the vertical structure of the bag. This bag sits upright on the shelf. Brand messaging can be populated on all 4 vertical panels of the bag as well as the bottom.
Quad seal bag/ 4 Corner Block bottom bag:
4 Corner Block Bottom Bags are also referred as Quad Seal Bags. The main feature of this bag is that it is formed in a rectangular shape. The 4 vertical edges of this bag are sealed allowing the bag to sit upright on the shelf. The bottom of the bag is side gusseted and sealed. The bag forms a rectangular block shape at the bottom when filled with high density products.

Doy Rim Style Bag:
Doy Rim Style Bag is also referred as Sealed K – Bottom Stand Up Bag. This bag has 2 vertically sealed edges and it has a bottom gusset to allow the bag sit up right on the shelf. The bottom gusset is formed in the shape of a K on either side of the bag. What differentiates this bag from Doy Style pouch is that the bottom edge around the pouch is sealed.
Pillow Bag:
Pillow Bags are the most common type of bag style in flexible packaging. As per the name of the bag, it forms the shape of a pillow. Once filled, it balloons from the middle and flatten out at the top and bottom seals. The bag is formed with a fin seal or lap seal running through the center of the back panel. This bag allows for brand messaging on the front and the back panels.
4 Side Seal Bag:
4 Side Seal Bag is also referred as a Flat Pouch. A small 4 Side Seal Bag is also referred as a Sachet . This bag is formed by sealing the front and back panels of the bag through out the perimeter of the bag. This bag is not able to flex / curve or balloon as much compared to a Pillow bag. As the bag is sealed on all 4 sides, it gives better security from leakage. This style is popular with liquid products Brand messaging can be populated on the front and back panels.
3 Side Seal Bag:
3 Side Seal Bag is similar in shape to a 4-Side Seal Bag . The main difference is that the front and back panels of the bag are sealed on 3 sides and folded on 1 side. Generally, the bottom side of the bag is folded which allows the bag to flex for products to settle at the bottom properly. This style of bag allows for branding at the front and back panels. This is a popular style of bag for spices, liquids and similar products.
Spouted Pouch
A Spouted Pouch is essentially a DOY Stand Up Pouch with a capped fitment sealed to the pouch. This pouch is designed as an alternative to rigid packaging made from plastic or glass. It offers excellent surface area for brand messaging and it keeps the brand in front of the customer more effective than a rigid cylindrical container.
